You can’t just put anything that you think will rot into your compost otherwise it won’t be as effective and might bring about unwanted results like a little bit of stench. So you need to attune to the two main types of compost.
You can either do 50/50 or 60/40 whichever works best for you such as the availability of materials to compost. That’s 50% brown and 50% green or 40% brown and 60% green where there’s more green in the mix.
Greens are green-colored compost. These are richer in nitrogen. The main difference between the green and brown compost is essentially time. So green are still fresher dead plant material that has more moisture intact while the browns are the older dryer ones. The browns are richer in carbon.
